Kentucky Students to Hold Press Conference Releasing New Book: Why Kentucky Students are Suing the State

The Kentucky Student Voice Team is launching their second book, centering the ongoing legal fight to secure a quality public education for every student in Kentucky.

On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, the Kentucky Student Voice Team (KSVT) will host a virtual press conference for the media, announcing the release of the organization’s second book: Why Kentucky Students are Suing the State: Classrooms, Courts and the Constitution. This event will be held via Zoom from 4:00-4:45 p.m. ET for members of the press, hosted by student plaintiffs, KSVT members, and adult legal partners.

Produced by KSVT, this book will mark the one year anniversary of the historic lawsuit filed by KSVT and 13 student plaintiffs, The Kentucky Student Voice Team v. Commonwealth. The lawsuit contends that the Commonwealth has failed its constitutional obligation to provide an adequate and equitable education system as guaranteed by the landmark 1989 Rose v. Council for Better Education decision.

During the event, KSVT students will briefly present the book and outline why students across the Commonwealth are challenging Kentucky’s failure to provide an adequate public education as guaranteed by Kentucky’s State Constitution. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A with attending journalists.

This event offers reporters an opportunity to hear directly from KSVT about the research, stories and legal arguments behind the lawsuit and what the team hopes the case will mean for the future of public education in Kentucky.

Why Kentucky Students are Suing the State: Classrooms, Courts and the Constitution can be purchased on Amazon in paperback and hardback or downloaded digitally as a PDF for free on the KSVT website.
