ADVISORY: Students to Share College Affordability Stories in the Capitol Rotunda

Hosted by the Student Voice Team along with a coalition of adult allies, including the Governor’s Commonwealth for Parent Leadership, Hope Street Group, Kentucky Center for Economic Policy, and Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities, Ready for College but No Way to Go will be dedicated to sharing the stories of low-income students who fall along the spectrum of struggling to afford college or thriving with the help of need-based scholarships.

There has been over $1 billion of unmet need among Kentucky students over the course of the past decade, and only one third of students who qualify for need-based scholarships actually receive that assistance. If need-based scholarships were funded at the level outlined in Kentucky statute, an additional 15,000-20,000 students would stand to benefit. Through this event, the Student Voice Team hopes to put faces to these facts.

The Kentucky Student Voice Team is a statewide organization of young people who are co-creating more just, democratic Kentucky schools & communities as research, policy & advocacy partners. From 2012 to 2021, KSVT was incubated at the Prichard Committee, a nonpartisan, citizen-led organization working to improve education in Kentucky for all ages.
