Kentucky Students Launch State of Schools Survey

‍LEXINGTON, KY – Today, Kentucky Student Voice Team (KSVT) announced the launch of their statewide Kentucky State of Schools Survey. Students designed the survey to gather insights from students, families, and educators about the extent to which Kentucky is living up to its constitutional promise to provide young people with an adequate education.

The research is part of KSVT’s Rose Revival Campaign, a co-generational effort to explore whether the provisions of Kentucky’s landmark 1989 Rose v. Council for a Better Education state supreme court decision to provide young people with an adequate education are upheld today.

The survey takes fewer than 10 minutes to complete, and the team is encouraging any Kentucky resident with direct and recent experience to a Kentucky public school to access and complete it through this link:

“We designed this survey as a way to raise awareness about Kentucky’s historic contributions to education innovation,” says Nicholas Hazelett, a senior from Paintsville High School, and part of the team of students leading local outreach as a KSVT survey captain. “But, our ultimate goal is to tap into the wisdom of those closest to our schools to shape the conversation about what we need to do next to ensure education excellence.”

In addition to the survey, KSVT is gathering data through a series of interactive public forums and qualitative interviews. The team plans to share the results widely in a report they will publish and promote later this year.

The Kentucky State of Schools survey window will be open until February 16, 2024.
