On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, the Kentucky Student Voice Team will announce the filing of a landmark lawsuit against the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The complaint seeks to address the state’s systemic failure to fulfill its constitutional obligation to provide students with an adequate and equitable education as guaranteed by the 1989 Rose v. Council for Better Education state supreme court decision.

At the press conference, students will share stories and statistics and outline the systemic challenges that have led to this historic legal action, including declining literacy rates, lack of civics education, mental health crises and severe funding disparities. Legal representatives will be on site to discuss the broader implications of the case for education in Kentucky and beyond.

The event will highlight the Kentucky Student Voice Team's commitment to ensuring that every student in the Commonwealth has access to the resources, opportunities, and support necessary to thrive.
