Bio
Laney is a researcher focused on young people’s aspirations for themselves and their homes. Her curiosity about education, participatory action research, and public policy bloomed within the Kentucky Student Voice Team.
In 2020, she served as a co-project lead on the KSVT’s “Coping With COVID-19: Youth Experiences and Perspectives.” In this role, she co-led an intergenerational, participatory research team to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the academic, social, and emotional development of Kentucky students. She became a first-generation college graduate in the same year, earning a Bachelor of Arts in politics from Centre College. These intertwined experiences serve as the bedrock for her current work at Child Trends, the leading research organization in the U.S. focused solely on improving the lives of children and youth.
Laney is based in North Carolina - with her partner Ben and dog Coco - but always has Kentucky on her mind.
